VBA has been a renowned sport-entertainment model that achieves great success since last year. Debuting in 2016 with 05 participating teams from 04 big cities, VBA soon became a phenomenon. Being named as the first ever professional basketball league in Vietnam following international standards, it comprises not only basketball but a whole lot exciting elements as well. Breathtaking games combining with magnificent music and entertaining engaging activities created such an irresistable appeal to not only sport-enthusiasts but also trendy youngsters throughout Vietnam.

Following the success, this year VBA will kickstart with the hunting for Vietnamese heritage players in the US Tryout which will occur in Los Angeles in the first week of May.

“The first season of VBA has ended successfully, bringing the Vietnamese heritage players a great chance to come back and develop their motherland’s sports in general and basketball in particular. Following the momentum, the second season of VBA will take place with more qualified players to return and play in Vietnam.” Mr. Connor Nguyen – the CEO of VBA – revealed. “The objective of this thorough recruitment of VBA players is to uphold the development and success of basketball in Vietnam. We must develop more professional basketball teams, raise both the profile and the standards of this sport. And one essential solution is that we need to leverage more international resources and talents. We hope that the Vietnamese community in the U.S.A will help support us again.”

This strategy of Mr. Connor has shown its merits well, with Jimmy Kien, Horace Nguyen (Danang Dragons-current VBA champion), Justin Young (Hochiminh City Wings) or Tam Dinh, Sang Dinh (Cantho Catfish) becoming not only sport idols but also great inspiration amongst the youth.

Horace Nguyen, the key player of the Danang Dragons team, the first champion of VBA, confesses, “When I was in America, due to an accident, I could not join in tryouts to prove my basketball talent to coaches, which made me fail to gain university scholarships. That left a big hole in me during my last highschool years. But thanks to that I also realized my endless passion for basketball. VBA has given me the chance to make my dream come true, more so in my own homeland. I will never forget that moment when I was selected to VBA in Danang Dragons team. That was such an unforgettable day! I hope many more overseas Vietnamese players could have the chance like me.”

This year, VBA US Tryout will take place on May 6th and 7th at Hope University, Fullerton, California, USA. Any Vietnamese heritage players with interest in playing professional basketball in Vietnam are encouraged to register and attend the camp.
